The Cherokee Expedition of 1776
Prompted by the British, the Cherokee staged coordinated attacks on the Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina frontiers in the summer of 1776. Colonel William Christian resigned from command of the 1st Virginia Regiment to go home and lead Virginia's response.
