Pennsylvania Dutch (German) settlement extended southwest into the Shenandoah Valley, changing Virginia and producing many soldiers for the Revolutionary War. Peter Muhlenberg, Abraham Bowman, and Isaac Hite were among the Germans who served with distinction in the Virginia Continental Line.
